The 1998 Chevrolet Silverado z71 is a full size heavy duty pickup truck manufactured by General Motors. The Chevrolet Silverado has improved on the previous Chevrolet C/K pickup trucks. Even though the first line of pickup trucks by General Motors was introduced in the 1930’s, the term ‘Silverado’ was only used to refer to the trims of Chevrolet C/K pickup trucks, Tahoes and Suburbans from 1975-99.

Z71 is a special trim level package for all Silverados, and in case of 1998 Chevrolet Silverado, it features box made of composite materials, towing suspension package and positioned as off-road package. It comes with 3 different gasoline engines.

This car comes with the 3 different engines – all comes from Vortec family, 4.3L V6 producing 200 hp, 5.0L V8 with 230 hp and 5.7L V8 producing 255 hp.
All Chevrolet Silverados have an anti lock braking system along with a 4.1-1 rear angle ratio with disc brakes that are ventilate in the front. The suspension came with a wishbone system along with coil springs and stabilizer bar.
The 4 wheel drive system used to be a part time unit which came with hub control, auto lock features and manual shift. On the other hand during a 2 wheel drive, the front axle of the truck will disengage and let the wheels in the front spin with ease. In the 4 wheel drive the power gets distributed equally to the front and rear wheels.
While writing a 1998 Chevrolet Silverado review I definitely need to include a few lines about the dimensions of the car. The cab version of this car came with a 155.5 inch wheelbase while the body measured about 237 inches. It was 94.3 inches wide and the height was 72.6’’. The front track is 64.4 inches wide and the rear track measures 69.2 inches. The dimensions of the extended cab version are not much different from the regular model.
Fuel Efficiency and other features
The 1998 Chevrolet Silverado came with typical halogen single headlights. It had conventional mechanical folding door mirrors along with a fixed window in the rear with tinted glass. The extended cab version of this model had a chrome front bumper lights which run in daytime. The Silverado had a 5.3 liter V8 which can garner 12 mph in the streets of the city and 16 mpg on the highways.
The Chevrolet Silverado received the Truck of the Year by the Motor Trend Magazine in 1999. Most users have commented that the overall performance of the Chevrolet Silverado gives no cause for complains.
