New Mercedes CLA Is A 4-Door Coupe Based on A-class

The company Mercedes-Benz officially introduced the CLA-Class sedan, the pre-premiere show of which was held for a narrow circle of people at the Auto Show in Detroit 2013. The presentation of the new model took place on January 15 at the Mercedes Fashion Week in Berlin, and the car was presented in March at the motor show In Geneva.

As previously reported, Mercedes CLA is positioned by the automaker as a four-door coupe, and it was based on the platform from the hatchback A-Class of the latest generation. The machines have a common wheelbase (106.2 inch), but the length of the sedan is 13.3″ longer than the length of the hatch.

Like Smaller CLS

In its overall dimensions, the Mercedes CLA even slightly surpassed the C-Class sedan. The length of the novelty is 182.2 inches (1.5″ longer than the four-door C-class), width – 80 inch (together with mirrors), height – 56.6 inches. The exterior of the new Mercedes-Benz CLA is solved in the style of the Concept Style Coupe, shown at the Beijing Motor Show in the spring of 2012. The car received an almost vertical radiator grille with a large emblem in the center, sides with complex forges and rear lights, reminiscent of the older CLS.

It is noteworthy that the sedan has an extremely low drag coefficient of 0.23 – this figure is a record for the production cars. This was achieved due to the thoughtful shape of the side mirrors and the cunning spoilers in the wheel arches.

The Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class interior almost completely repeats the same on the A-class hatchback. They have the same steering wheel, the same design of the front panel with round ventilation nozzles, the identical architecture of the center console and the same screen of the multimedia system, taken out separately.

Model Line

As the power units for the car four engines are provided – three petrol power 122 HP (CLA 180), 156 HP (CLA 200) and 211 HP (CLA 250). And one diesel CDI with a output of 170 horsepower (CLA 220). Later in the lineup appeared “charged” modification CLA 45 AMG with 360-HP turbocharged I4. In addition, the Mercedes CLA can be ordered with the new generation 4MATIC four-wheel drive system, which normally transmits traction to the front axle wheels. And the rear ones connects if necessary.

The car is provided with a variety of different security systems, including the driver’s fatigue monitoring function, collision avoidance system, a system for lane departure warning, as well as a system of parallel and perpendicular automatic parking and many others.
