2015 Volkswagen Passat GTE New Hybrid Modification

In autumn of 2014 at the Paris auto show Volkswagen presented the production version of Passat GTE – a hybrid version of the Passat of the eighth generation, which appeared in the family of the German bestseller for the first time in its long history. In mid-2015, the car should go into production, and its sales in Europe will begin in September.

2015 Volkswagen Passat GTE External Changes

The appearance of the VW Passat B8 in the hybrid modification is tailored in the same vein as the design of the exterior of the traditional model, while it has some elements of individualization.

The distinctive features of the machine are the blue strip on the radiator grille, the original front bumper with daytime running lights of the C-shape, the GTE nameplates and the hidden exhaust pipes, hinting that the electric mode for it is regarded as the main one. Well, finish the overall picture of Astana rims with a dimension of 17 inches. Hybrid “Passat” of the 8th generation will be offered in sedan and station wagon, which in their sizes will completely coincide with the standard versions of the model.

2015 Passat GTE Stylish Interior

Inside the “eighth” Volkswagen Passat GTE is identical to its standard counterpart – an informative combination of devices (optional – digital) and a center console with a color monitor with a diagonal of 6.5 or 8 inches. The furniture “flaunts” a combination of decorative details from aluminum, black gloss and accents of blue, represented by inserts on the seats and stitching on the leather steering wheel.

In the cargo-and-passenger plan, the hybrid variant of Passat differs from the traditional versions – comfortable front seats and a comfortable rear sofa, a sufficient supply of space on all fronts and a luggage compartment of a similar volume (20.6 cu ft for the sedan and 22.9 cu ft for the station wagon).

Passat GTE 2015 Hybrid Features

The VW Passat GTE power unit combines a 1.4-liter turbocharged I4, which produces 156 horsepower, and a 115-horsepower electric motor that transmits the entire traction to the front axle via a 6-speed robotic DSG, enhanced for a hybrid drive. The aggregate capacity of the unit totals 218 horsepower and 295 ft lb of torque.

The parameters of the car are very solid: a traction battery with a capacity of 9.9 kWh provides a 31-mile run on clean electricity, and a 13.2-gallon fuel tank filled to capacity increases the total power reserve to 621.3 miles. To fully charge the battery from an ordinary outlet it takes 4 hours 15 minutes, and from a special station it takes 2 hours and 30 minutes.

The average fuel consumption in the NECD cycle for the German hybrid does not exceed 2 liters per 100 km, in the whole electric mode it is able to accelerate to 80 MPH, and with the ICE connected – 136 MPH, accelerating to the first sixty after 8 seconds. On the other technical parameters, the hybrid Passat is identical to the model of the eighth generation – the MQB platform, the electric power steering, the independent running gear of all wheels and the disk mechanisms of the brake system in all wheels.
