Dodge Journey Is A Combination Between Wagon and SUV

At the international motor show in Frankfurt, held in autumn 2007, the American company Dodge exhibited on its stage a new model of the medium-sized class called Journey – something in between a minivan and a crossover, reminiscent of the layout of the station wagon.

In the fall of 2010, Americans showed Journey, which passed through a serious update – they retouched the exterior, visibly improved the salon decoration, added new gadgets to the functional and shook up the technique, in particular, separated the new engine, reconfigured the steering and suspension and improved sound insulation.

Station Wagon or SUV?

Externally, Dodge Journey favorably differs from most middle-sized opponents, first of all, its originality – in its exterior, the features inherent in SUVs, minivans and universals are quite harmoniously combined. It looks attractive, adult and brutal thanks to a muscular body composition with a solidly frowned front, tightened silhouette, not devoid of dynamism, and a monumental stern.

Nice But Old-Fashioned Interior

The interior of the Dodge Journey evokes exceptionally positive emotions – a plump multifunction steering wheel, an expensive dashboard with two wells and an on-board computer screen, a pleasant front-panel architecture with a laconic center console containing modern multimedia and climate systems. Pleases the decoration of the five-door and high-quality finishing materials – soft to the look and feel of plastics, soft leather and appropriate decoration like aluminum.

By default, the interior at the Journey is five-seater with comfortable front seats that have a tangible side support and a rigid filler, and a spacious rear sofa with a welcoming profile and adjustable backrest angle. The optional third row is more suitable for children, although on short trips on it adults can also sit down.

With seven passengers on board, the volume of the trunk of the Dodge Journey is only 5.8 cu ft. Seats of the third and second rows fit into a perfectly flat area and significantly increase the cargo capacity of the crossover – up to 27.6 cu ft and 55.1 cu ft, respectively.

Up to V6

Under the hood of the simplest versions there is an atmospheric 2.4-liter I4 with in-line layout, 16-valve timing and distributed injection, generating 175 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 162 ft lb of torque at 4500 rpm and working with 4-speed automatic and front-wheel drive. To accelerate to the first sixty this crossover takes 11.8 seconds, its top speed is 116 MPH. More productive options for Dodge Journey include six-cylinder V-engine volume of 2.7 liters with a function of direct power and 24-valve timing, the potential of which is 185 horsepower at 5500 rpm and 188 cu ft of available torque at 4000 rpm.

In conjunction with it, automatic with six gears and drive to the front wheels, resulting in a acceleration to sixty the car takes 10.8 seconds, the top speed is 113 MPH.

The most powerful modification of the car has naturally aspirated Pentastar V6 3.6 liters with sequential multi-point injection and 24-valve timing DOHC, which develops 280 horsepower at 6350 rpm and 252 ft lb of maximum torque at 4350 rpm. With it a 6-speed automatic transmission and a plug-in all-wheel drive, controlled by electronics are working. Such a car goes 0-60 in 8.4 seconds, top speed reaching 128 MPH.

The Journey is based on the front-wheel drive chassis “Chrysler JC” with an independent suspension structure on each axle: McPherson struts are used in front, in the rear there is a Multi-Link multi-link scheme (in both cases with transverse stabilizers, gas-filled shock absorbers and screw springs). In the construction of the body of the car, high-strength and ultra-high-strength grades are used abundantly (they account for more than 30%).
