New Ford Raptor – Extreme Version Of F-series Pickup


The auto show in Detroit was the place of the presentation of the new generation of “charged” pickup 2016 Ford Raptor F-150. Under the hood of most powerful version of the legendary models was a V-shaped atmospheric “8” – but the now truck is lighter and got petrol V6 with a turbocharger.

Sales of the new F-150 Raptor will start in the U.S. in the fall of 2016. The cost of new items, the company has chosen not to disclose yet.

The exact pricing for 2016 Ford Raptor is unknown yet, but tends to be no less than main rivals pickup trucks, like top trim 2016 Ram and 2016 Chevy Silverado.

10-Speed Gearbox and Turbocharged V6

Turbo V6 will be combined with the new 10-speed automatic gearbox (the predecessor – 6-band), the gears of which you can now switch with gearshift paddles under the steering wheel. In addition, a new electronic system Terrain Management System, changes settings of the engine, transmission, ABS and stability system depending on one of the 6 types of operation.

Under the hood of the new Ford F-150 Raptor (before this version was called SVT Raptor) is lighter and cost-efficient 3.5-L EcoBoost V6 with two turbochargers. It will replace former naturally-aspirated V8 6.2 liter, pretending to 411 HP and 588 Nm. Exactly how many will develop a V6 engine for the Raptor, Ford representatives have not yet reported, however, claim that capabilities will surpass the previous V8 and power, and torque. Recall, the most powerful production version of the supercharged V6 is now put on a new Lincoln Navigator, where it develops 380 HP and 624 Nm.

The AWD system is also new and more convenient to use. If the predecessor’s front axle was connected only hard and by driver wish (part-time scheme), the new F-150 Raptor connecting the front axle now manages a multi-disc clutch (torque-on-demand scheme). In the mode 4A coupler constantly changes the degree of locking, flexibly adjusting supplied to the front axle torque, but in modes of hand-outs 4H and 4L clutch already completely blocked. To preserve old scheme of hard forced locking rear transverse differential and front axle will be installed mechanical “self-blocking” Torsen (optional).

Exterior Design

Although in model’s appearance have been significant changes, its appearance is still quite easy to know. First of all, catches the eye of such design elements as the original head optics, silver protection on the bottom, the plastic lining on the wheel arch, vertical grille, adorned with the word Ford.

The appearance is crowned by a new 17-inch wheels with off-road tires BFGoodrich All-Terrain KO2 an outside diameter of 35 inches (89 cm). In addition, instead of the previous twin exhaust pipe behind the rear right wheel, the truck received a separate “exhausters” under the rear bumper, issuing a new double-flow exhaust system, which Raptor is equipped for the first time.

In the heart of the new F-150 Raptor – rigid chassis and aluminum bodyparts allowed the new to “lose weight” of 226 kg, compared with its predecessor.
