The Outlander PHEV which now is widespread across Europe, Japan and Australia and it’s not the same model which would be sold in U.S. market next year. It would be completely restyled like ordinary Outlander which would be on sale in middle 2015. PHEV is refer to Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle and it seems that new generation of Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV would have modified powertrain. Hybrid system will be re-tuned and modernized. There are also significant changes in both interior and exterior.

The approximate 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV release date is 2015 fall. That’s nearly two years later than Mitsubishi’s previous plans

February 2, 2015 at the New York Auto Show a new redesigned Outlander was officially unveiled.

Previously, Mitsubishi facelifted the Outlander, but the changes were minimal. Now Mitsubishi designers and engineers has made significant restyling. New Mitsubishi Outlander received many design decisions that have already been implemented in a daring concept car Outlander PHEV Concept-S. This model shown earlier at the Paris Motor Show.

Car of the 2016 model year will receive a constricted headlights, a modified grill and bumper.

Compared to the previous model changes in interior is not radical, but you can see only some of the features in the lighting. It has been observed several improvement in the interior of the vehicle including the new design steering wheel, upholstery, new multimedia system and an auto-dimming rearview mirror.

The new Outlander equipped with both front and rear power windows, front center armrest, third rear armrest, folding rear seats, central lock, and standard immobilizer. The car is also has ABS, airbags for driver and passengers, rear door locks. The car has power mirrors, heated mirrors, and windshield defroster.

In addition, the new production model will get some of the design decisions of the hybrid concept GC-PHEV (Grand Cruiser), which was shown at the Chicago Auto Show. Under the hood of GC-PHEV is supercharged V6 and a built-in electric motor with the total output of 335 hp, working together with the 8-speed automatic transmission that sends a pulse to all 4 wheels.

Stylish concept car GC-PHEV saturated with elements of fantasy, futuristic trend is particularly noticeable in the Tactical Table (touchscreen table). The concept also allows the use of the windshield as a screen for virtual reality.

According to the technical component of the updated model there is no information yet, but according to rumors, the crossover will be equipped with petrol engines of 2.0 and 2.4 liters, as well as a hybrid system, which will include a set of 2.2-liter engine and an electric motor (PHEV modification).

As for standard Outlander with petrol two-liter engine, it accelerates from 0 to 60 mph (100 km/h) in 11 seconds. Maximum speed is approximately 120 mph (197 km/h).
Mixed fuel consumption of the car reaches approximately 35 miles per gallon. Transmission – CVT, as in previous models. Wheels has 16-inch radius rims as a standard equipment. The rear and front suspension – independent spring.

Mitsubishi Outlander brand history

Firstly it was released as Airtrek model in Japan in 2001, then the name was changed to Outlander in 2003 for North American market. The Airtrek model have been producing until 2008 parallel to Outlander. The second generation of that model was named Outlander in all markets and was released in 2005. It also has twin-cars: Citroen C-crosser and Peugeot 4007. The third generation was introduced in October 2011 at the Geneva Motor Show.

In 2012, the possible presence of plug-in hybrid was announced, that vehicle should run on electric engine in conjunction with a gasoline engine and should be able to drive on electricity only up to 30 miles. It was named «Mitsubishi Outlander P-HEV». Sales began in late 2013.

2016 Outlander PHEV refer to the last, third generation, completely restyled in 2015.
