We’ve already previewed the upcoming and muscle-bound Camaro ZL1; classic American muscle car formulation – powerful V8 in a rear wheel drive, lightweight chassis. The ZL1 should be the most powerful Camaro yet seen. But wait just one minute; there are other numbers well known in the Chevy history as well, the Z28.
The 2017 Chevy Camaro Z28 has already been spotted testing on public highways, we have even seen the pictures of the one that was recently crashed at the legendary Nurburgring.
The new Camaro Z28 is expected to be a race orientated lightweight version of the Camaro, going head-to-head with the Shelby GT350 Mustang.
2017 Camaro Z28 release date
While sources tell us that the Z28 is in the final stages of road testing, we think that it’s unlikely that we’ll see the 2017 Camaro Z28 before the middle of next year, expect a mid-2017 launch date.
Release date: 2017
2017 Chevy Camaro Z28 price
Chevy currently sell the previous version of the Z28 in special race trim for $72,500. The new 2017 Chevy Camaro Z28 is a brand new car with even more possibilities, so expect to see it for sale for at least $75,000, possibly going as high as $80,000 – either way, it will be the most expensive Camaro sold.

2017 Chevy Camaro Z28 exterior
The only pictures we’ve seen show the new Z28 in full camouflage, however, even with that, we can see some detailing for the new model; an enlarged rear wing on the trunk lid, wider wheel arches, 19” rims and redesigned tail pipes. The 2017 Z28 will no doubt also have reengineered aero packages; front splitter, rear diffuser and redesigned bumpers for a start, we also think there will be smaller styling touches like matte black paintwork for the real aggressive look.

2017 Camaro Z28 interior
We don’t think that the 2017 Camaro Z28 will differ much on the inside, perhaps different trim materials and colors, maybe a more race inspired seat and steering wheel combo. We also think that Chevy will keep the Z28 as a manual, for that full race-effect.
2017 Chevy Camaro Z28 specs
As you’d expect from a sports / race car, the most interesting aspect is where will the power come from? Chevy have at least two options open to them; fitting an LSA engine – small block V8 that’s fitted to the previous generation ZL1 or a reworked and retuned 6.2 liter V8 from the ZL1 but keeping it naturally aspirated rather than forced induction.
However, the key to the success of the Z28 will be power, and lots of it. So perhaps FI will be the way forward for them, the car needs to make a minimum of 600+ BHP for it to be competitive.
