2017 Dodge 3500 Engines
The pickup is fitted with a 5.7 liter Hemi engine, fitted with twin-spark cylinder heads, it produces 390 BHP and is fitted throughout the Dodge RAM lineup.
For those that don’t know, the Hemi designation relates to the hemispherical shape of the combustion chambers in the cylinder head, effectively increasing power thanks to better combustion and larger valves.
With emissions getting tighter, the RAM is fitted with a clever system that shuts down half of the cylinders when in economy mode, this reduces fuel consumption by almost 50%
The 2017 Dodge RAM 3500 will also have the option of a Cummins diesel engine. The turbocharged diesel engines are an extremely reliable workhorse, but developed to feel smooth and quiet when fitted to a truck. The maximum power output of the P6 Cummins 5.9 liter Turbo Diesel is 325 BHP, the 6.7 liter is 350 BHP.
These smooth six-cylinder engines achieve about 18 MPG on the highway.
