2017 Ferrari F12 Berlinetta: red 740 HP beast


Ferrari company rarely indulges the public with new models, so every primiere from Maranello is a real large-scale event. Not an exception the spring of 2012, when in the Geneva Motor Show held World debut of the supercar F12 Berlinetta, which was officially declassified at the web in February. In the Ferrari model range F12 replaced the 599th series, and was a flagship model before the release of hybrid LaFerrari to market.

Beautiful F12 Berlinetta 2-door coupe body was designed by Ferrari and Pininfarina, paying great attention to exploring aerodynamics and not forgetting about the family notes of Italian brand. Emphasized sporty appearance of the car is created by the aggressively cut headlights, long hood of complex shape, curvaceous and huge 20-inch wheel disks. No less spectacular is rear end which has a classical round shape rearlights, the diffuser and the four pipes of the exhaust system.

External dimensions of at 2-door from Maranello are following: 181.8 in long, 76.4 in wide and 50.1 inches in height, and the distance between the axes is 107 in. The width of the front track is 65.5 in, rear – on 1.8 in less. As for wheel dimensions Ferrari F12 Berlinetta has 20-inch wheels with 255/35 tires standard size at the front and 315/55 at the rear.

The interior of the supercar – is a fusion of quality and functionality, belonging to the Ferrari can be seen in every detail. Traditionally, most of the control elements of the brand (including paddle shifters) are concentrated on the steering wheel, which settled for “yellow spot” tachometer, surrounded by a pair of color displays.

But the front panel is “impregnated” minimalism: the center three round vents, the air conditioner unit located in the center console. In front of the passenger seat there is a narrow LCD screen, displays the tachometer scale, gear choosing and the current speed. Sport bucket seats installed for both driver and passenger of Ferrari F12 Berlinetta, equipped with pronounced lateral support and leather trim.

This supercar has a good supply of practicality – in its arsenal 11.3 cubic feet luggage compartment separated by shelf, removing which could increase volume up to 17.6 cu ft.

Under the hood, “stallion” from Maranello has naturally aspirated twelve-cylinder unit with V-shaped configuration displacement of 6.3 liters (384 cubic inches). Its maximum output is 740 horsepower at 8250 revolutions/minute and 690 Nm (508 ft lb) of torque at 6000 rpm, with 80% of torque is available already from 2500 rpm. Duet with the engine creates a 7-speed robotic F1 manual with double clutch, directing the full potential of the rear axle wheels.

This combination gives the F12 Berlinetta “hurricane” performance: acceleration to 60 mph takes 3.1 seconds, and to 124 mph – 8.5 seconds. Peak supercar capabilities are limited at around 211 mph, and fuel consumption in the combined cycle is claimed to be 15 liters per 100 kilometers (or 15 mpg) with “start/stop”system usage.

At the heart of the 2017 Ferrari F12 Berlinetta is the spatial aluminum frame, resulting in a “dry” weight of 3362 lbs distributed between the axles in ratio of 46:54. The car is equipped with independent suspension in both axles – the front and the rear is a twin wishbones arranged transversely, coil springs, dampers with magnetorheological fluid and anti-roll bar. The steering system is supplemented by hydraulic amplifier, and the brake system is represented by carbon-ceramic devices on all four wheels with modern electronic assistants.

By default, the supercar is equipped with a set of airbags (front and side), climate control, adaptive bi-xenon headlights, premium audio system, power accessories, wheels of 20 inches and a host of advanced electronic functions.
