New Generation Honda CR-V SUV Has Increased In Size

The Honda company traditionally tries to stick to the highest quality standards in the manufacture of its cars. The Honda CRV model is no exception to this rule. It is expected that this famous crossover, which is very popular now in many countries around the world, will soon become even bigger.

Scheduled For 2017

According to one popular automotive publication, the head of the British unit of the Honda company, which is engaged in passenger cars, has revealed that the next generation of the popular compact crossover will be much larger. Leon Brennan also divulged that the release is tentatively scheduled for 2017.

World premiere will hold at the Auto Show in Los Angeles in November, that time the full technical specifications of the SUV will be known – now the information is limited.

Of course, there may be some changes to the dates, but the car is likely to be released next year. The Japanese crossover will be positioned as a high class product. Mr. Brennan gave reporters a large amount of useful and interesting information relating to the new super-popular crossover. While this did not include particular technical characteristics as the car is still under development, we still managed to glean something interesting.

The pricing level of the new 2017 model year CR-V crossover will remain the same and start at a mere $25,000.

CR-V Grows Bigger

Certain models and crossovers in particular have tried to become ever smaller. Of course, they are far from the size of some hatchbacks, but still a clear trend can be observed of how manufacturers keep reducing their size. Recently, however, some car manufacturers have been trying to create a larger crossover, which could emphasize the particular status of the owner, and also will also accommodate more people.

The larger car looks good not only in the city but also outside of it.

A well-designed car of this type can overcome a variety of obstacles and even very difficult conditions. So surely the updated Japanese crossover will with time become a success among US motorists.

The manufacturer claims that the wheelbase of the 2017 CR-V increased by 1.6 inches, and the legroom for the rear passengers has increased by 2″. According to preliminary data, SUV has increased in length for about 1.1″, both in width and height – about 1.3″. At the same time, the car weight has decreased.

Why Is a Larger Car Needed?

Certainly a large number of fans of vehicles from Honda have thought about the reasons for increasing the size of the car. This is understandable, as people always want to know the features of their vehicle.

Spacious Interior

Due to the significant increase in the size of the car, there will be quite a lot of additional space inside the cabin. Externally, the car also looks more aggressive, athletic and mature. The engineers and designers of Honda have been very actively working on the creation of this vehicle. They have crafted unique technologies and capabilities to ensure that the crossover with its increased dimensions has not lost any of its former speed, agility or appeal.

2017 Honda CRV interior has also been completely redesigned. Honda admitted that the reference sample in the work on the interior decoration of the new crossover was taken from BMW X3. New CRV now has two displays, dual-zone climate control, remote engine start, heated all seats, as well as setting the driver’s seat with electric drive in eight positions (in four for the front passenger).

Powertrain Options

We will see new economical powertrains and a new diesel engine.

The new CRV is based on the platform of the tenth generation of Civic. The main innovation – 1.5-liter turbo engine which is boosted compared to the Civic. Its output increased to 190 hp (178 ft-lb). Previous naturally aspirated 2.4-liter engine with similar performance (184 hp and 179 ft-lb) will continue to offer, but the Honda makes high stakes it to the turbocharged unit.

Note that the turbo goes to peak torque earlier than N/A unit – 2000 rpm vs 3900 rpm. Both engines are paired with a CVT automatic. By default, the crossover will be front wheel drive, but all-wheel drive available as an option.

There is a high probability that we will see a hybrid modification to the vehicle in the nearest future.

Tech Features

Honda plan to equip the car with the most advanced technology in the field of security, control and so on. Special attention is also going to be paid to the technical parameters of the vehicle, its interior, exterior and other characteristics.

After carefully implemented work and the equipping of the crossover with the highest level of quality, the car has to compete with such vehicles as the Volvo XC60 and the Land Rover Discovery Sport. In addition to adding many modern technologies and optional features, the automaker is going to equip all versions of the new crossover with a third row of seats.

Supposedly, the car will inherit many solutions that are used in the current generation crossover. In the future the car should be designed in the style of the smaller model. However, this point is very controversial and engineers may shift to new standards of quality.
