New 2017 Mercedes-Maybach S-class Sedan Compete Rolls-Royce

The Maybach brand was reintroduced back in 2002, but in all honesty, it didn’t do well; whether the product wasn’t good enough or whether people just weren’t ready to spend that sort of money on what was essentially an executive vehicle, no one really knows. However, for 2014, Mercedes decided to try again and this time, it seems much better received. The Maybach is available as an ‘off the shelf’ car, but nearly every single one sold has been built to order and is virtually unique in one way or another – the idea is to create something that is custom to you.

2017 Mercedes-Maybach Pricing and Availability

The 2017 Mercedes Maybach is available in the showroom now, or at least available to order – you won’t find your local Mercedes stockist full of custom Maybach’s. The starting price for this big Merc is just over $190,000, and it really is that – the start. Options are designed to be ticked to give you a unique vehicle – there is even armor plating available for those that need it – but the armored version is close to half million dollars.

Mercedes-Maybach 2017 Fresh and Modern

The Maybach brand has been around again since 2014, so they are still new – given the type of car, they are never going to look fresh and modern, but it isn’t that type of car – you don’t buy a Maybach for style.

Mercedes-Maybach Is Full Of Power

Two choices for motor exist, both pretty punchy but the ‘base’ model has a 4.7 liter twin turbo V8 with 449 BHP whereas the grown up version has a 523 BHP twin turbo 6.0 liter V12 motor. The Maybach is of course fitted with all manner of luxury and toys, but we feel there is one that detracts from the whole ‘new car’ experience; the Maybach’s air filtration system infuses the cabin with the Maybach ‘signature’ fragrance, so you never really get that new car smell!

Look through the Mercedes build list and the equipment fitted as standard is long and impressive, it includes (but certainly not limited to):

  • electronic stability control;
  • traction control;
  • active blind spot monitoring and assist;
  • active lane assist;
  • night view assist PLUS night vision;
  • collision prevention;
  • front, rear and side cameras;
  • Burmester 3D sound system;
  • wireless headphone;
  • wireless streaming;
  • Bluetooth;
  • power trunk;
  •  14 way power adjustable with 4 stage massage seating and Nappa upholstery.

The Maybach really is the ultimate in executive vehicles, a number of ‘Captains of Industry’ have chosen the Maybach as their transport, but with the world turning to greener and smaller vehicles, perhaps Mercedes have missed their key moment.

The new Maybach from Mercedes is an intermediate option between standard S-class and much more luxurious Bentley and Rolls-Royce cars.
