Comparison of The 2017 Ram Rebel vs Ford Raptor

By

Majority of modern trucks are released today in a special trim level which is made for off-road experience. The latest Ram Rebel and Ford Raptor are of no exception.

They both include trims appropriate for those who love hardcore. If they both are good for non-city driving, what makes them different then? In fact, new Ram Rebel is closer to the classical era of pickups and it also includes V8. However, 2017 Ford Raptor is better for those who like futuristic technologies. So which model is more productive and more economical?

Specifications Matter

When you look at a brand new Ram Rebel, you can see a plenty of options to choose from. New generation of Raptor can’t boast about rich variety of engines. This vehicle provides an impressive 3.5-liter twin-turbo EcoBoost of V6 kind.

Its Ram competitor offers two V6s. One of them is 3.6-litre Pentastar producing 305 horsepower and 260 lb-of torque. Another one is 3.0-litre Ecodiesel producing 240 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque.

It’s not bad but Raptor kills them both with productivity of 450 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque. Even the most powerful 5.7-litre HEMI V8 inside of 2017 Rebel can’t beat it. This unit provides 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque.

Comparison of transmissions shows that Ford’s truck wins once again owing to its 10-speed automatic transmission. While Ram offers 8-speed and 6-speed variants which is nice though.

The newer 2018 Dodge Ram is likely to get more modern powertrains.

It looks like Ford wins in this competition because it has a modern and powerful engine. The problem is that it hasn’t been tested under extreme conditions and its reliability is still a question. Perhaps Ram is less powerful and doesn’t have modern technologies but its HEMI V8 is highly reliable.

Pricing Range

Pure facts show that new Ram has 10 trim levels while Ford offers 8 of them. The cheapest variant by Ram will cost you $26,145 and the cheapest Ford is $27,110. For this money the former one offers you 17-inch wheels of steel, black or grey interior, nice radio, front stabilizer bar, air conditioning and more. For approximately the same sum of money Ford gets you cloth interior, anti-lock brakes and airbags.

2017 Ram Rebel comes for $43,270 with a sexy look. It includes 4-corner air suspension, front/rear stabilizer bar, electronic stability control, advanced air bags, remote keyless entry with All-Secure and much more. If you pay $49,265 for Ford Raptor, you’ll have aluminum body, improved clearance, 3.0-inch FOX Racing Shox and aggressive look.

In fact advanced trims and base features are more or less the same in case with both of the vehicles. However, Ford cost quite a lot of money so buying Ram is a more beneficial decision.

All in all, 2017 Ram Rebel and Ford Raptor are quite different vehicles. They both are purposed for the same market segment but still Ford is better for people interested in technologies. It’s technologically advanced and looks more like an experiment. On the other hand, Ram sticks to the classics. It’s born for serious off-road experience owing to being built in a simple and reliable way. If you search for towing capabilities, Ram is what you need.
