2017 Subaru Tribeca will have to wait

The Japanese car maker Subaru is thinking of creating a 7-seat SUV to replace the Tribeca. The new model will be based upon the Outback and Legacy, and it is expected to arrive in late 2017.

2017 Subaru Tribeca release date

The president of the Subaru America, Tom Dolly, has gone on to say that the next generation Tribeca crossover will be on sale ‘in a couple of years’, and that the new model will be ‘exciting’.

Release date: end of 2017

2017 Subaru Tribeca redesign

It is thought that the new model will be based on the Viziv 2 concept; ‘Vision for Innovation’.

This will be the third concept in this range, the first had a three-door body and was first shown to the public at the Geneva motor show back in 2013, then a modified version appeared at the Tokyo show in the same year, this was the Viziv Evolution.

2017 Subaru Tribeca price

It is thought that the Tribeca will be the flagship model in Subaru’s line-up, so prices will reflect that; expect to see the Tribeca starting at $33,000.

2017 Subaru Tribeca modernization

The project manager for the Outback and Legacy, Masayuki Uchida has said that the platform size will need to be increased if it is to seat 7 people; the 108” wheelbase isn’t large enough to accommodate seven people.

Yasuyuki Yoshinaga has confirmed the intentions of the company to release such a model, although he didn’t go so far as giving a date for the production or sales.

2017 Subaru Tribeca engines

The new Tribeca will be based upon the last generation Outback, but it will include an innovative hybrid system using a 2.0 liter Boxer engine and three electric motors, two of which will be installed on the rear axle.

This should mean that the new car will have equally split all-wheel drive; the gas engine driving the front wheels through a CVT style transmission and the rear wheels being driven only by electric motor.
Subaru say that the lack of drivetrain to the rear should mean significant weight-saving, meaning optimized weight distribution and better handling.

Looks GREAT! BUT what’s with the two front headlamps that are ugly white circles and the rear headlamps that are ugly red circles? They detract from the otherwise great appearance! They are too large.
