2018 Acura ILX: the compact premium relauched

The Acura ILX is all about first’s; it was first introduced in 2012, it was the first compact from Acura in seven years and the first model from Acura to be a hybrid. The ILX is the entry level model in to the Acura brand, and is considered as a luxury compact; offering high levels of comfort and trim, on a level with some of the full-size luxury sedans. There have been no official announcements from Acura regarding the new 2018 Acura ILX, but there is lots of speculation and rumor, the major one being that the ILX will be based upon the Acura Precision concept car which was first shown this year (2016) at the Detroit Motor Show.

2018 Acura ILX Release Date

Rumor has it that we could see the Acura ILX as early as the end of 2017, but we think it’s more likely that the date will be pushed back to early 2018.

2018 Acura ILX release date: early 2018

2018 Acura ILX Price

There is no official confirmation of prices, best guesses put the price at just under $30,000 for the base model, rising up to about $35,000 for the full-specced up version.

2018 Acura ILX Redesign and Changes

We’ve heard two different stories regarding exterior changes; the first saying there won’t be a great deal of change, perhaps updated LED headlights and revised grille, the other saying that the new ILX will be completely redesigned, taking inspiration from the Precision concept. In all honesty, we’d expect somewhere between the two.

2018 Acura ILX Interior and Equipment

As regards the interior, we do know that it will be completely redesigned, giving more space (and therefore more comfort) for its occupants.

The AcuraWatch safety system will be fitted to all models, regardless of specification and there will also be keyless entry and ignition, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, rear cross-traffic alert system, blind spot warning, lane assist, adaptive cruise control (keeping constant speed with the traffic) and a front facing camera.

2018 Acura ILX Specs

The 2018 ILX will share the same platform as the new Civic, so we should see a reasonable amount of component sharing across the models, including the engine; the current model uses a 2.4 liter 4-cylinder engine, we think that will be changed for the smaller capacity 2.0 liter I4 engine, but fitted with a turbocharger, meaning that power should be in the region of 240 BHP which gets sent to the road by the new 8-speed auto transmission.

2018 Acura ILX Fuel efficiency

Mileage figures are good too; all calculations point toward about 36 MPG on the highway.

Acura needs to distinguish itself from Honda for the brand to be truly successful

Totally agree with you, need to change my 2014 TL and I’m in limbo.
