BMW Could Extend Its SUV Family With A New X7 Model

The 2018 BMW X7 is something that has been on the cards for some time; in the U.S., the Mercedes-Benz GLS Class, Range Rover and Cadillac Escalade are some of the biggest selling cars of all time, why wouldn’t BMW want a slice of that action?

Despite being tested in public, no-one really has that much of a clue as to what the X7 might look like, apart from ‘big’ or ‘boxy’. We do know that BMW aren’t lazy when it comes to styling, so we think it will be prettier than many people are saying, but it’s the details that we don’t know.

The Possible Pricing and Reveal

BMW are remaining quiet, but we think the 2018 X7 will showcase at a motor show in late 2017, with a release date in the early part of 2018.

Rumors of prices vary wildly; we’ve seen figures as low as $60,000 and prices going all the way up to $130,000. We do think that this premium SUV will be competitive, but it isn’t going to be cheap, expect base models to hit the showrooms for about $80,000.

Extended X5?

As this is a fresh model for BMW, this isn’t so much about redesign, but it’s a good place to speculate as to what we might see.

As regards powertrain, rumors say that the base model will be fitted with a 3.0 liter twin turbo I6 engine and that the range topper will be fitted with a 4.4 liter twin turbo V8, however, we think that there will also be a plug-in hybrid and there are whispers of a mighty 6.6 liter twin turbo V12, although that rumor hasn’t even been confirmed as a rumor, never mind as a fact from BMW.
Whatever the engine choice, power will be sent to all four wheels via a ZF 8-speed auto transmission.

Size wise, the BMW X7 is going to be big; sources say that the overall length will be over 17ft long (206.7” to be precise), and of course, being a full-size SUV, it must seat at least 7 comfortably.
BMW have confirmed that there will be two versions; a standard version (which will still be very luxurious) and a super-luxurious version.

More Advanced Equipment

Given that the standard one will be fitted with leather and the like, we’re keen to understand just how much more luxurious BMW can make the super-lux version, we think it will be more to do with the systems and infotainment systems fitted.
