Could Cadillac Escala Concept 2018 Show The Future Design Language

By

GM invest in Cadillac brand huge sums of money, to make it more attractable for customers, enlarge model lineup, make a best-selling brand among premium and luxury cars. New XT5 and CT6 models are just gorgeous, and there is more to come – at least one more SUV and next-generation mid-size premium sedan. Rumors suggest two options – sporty coupe-like car, to compete with Audi A7 and Porsche Panamera or new flagship compete with Bentley or even Rolls-Royce. 2018 Cadillac Escala concept could meet both expectations.

Above CT6

Cadillac traditionally presents their concept car at Concours d’Elegance in Pebble Beach, California. In 2011 it was Ciel, in 2013 Elmiraj, after which the rumors of the next-gen Eldorado shown up. In the late summer of 2016, the car producer showed Escala.

2018 Cadillac Escala concept

That name coincide with Escalade, but we believe that possible production version of the car is likely to stick to the alphanumeric designation. No one knows which one, but we could guess: 2018 Cadillac Escala is bigger than the current CT6 flagship, in every way, for instance, stretched by 6.5 inches. Considering sloping roofline, it is more like a sporty-styled sedan, more Panamera than Mercedes S-class. So, we could expect CT7 naming, probably an even more stretched CT8 coming later.

2018 Cadillac Escala Could New design language

The Escala looks absolutely fantastic but much closer to production version than any Cadillac concept of the recent years. It has liftback body, 3 windows in every side. The front end is completely new to Cadillac design language, highlighted by narrow lines of headlights and huge grille, doubled by maker badge.
Representatives of car company claimed that familiar front end notes will be used in future Cadillac cars.

Interior

The 2018 Cadillac Escala interior looks fantastic as well – natural wool inserts, leather, hi-tech features like double OLED screens on a dashboard, panoramic roof. It is both futuristic and practical, stunning-looking despite the grey color scheme.
We cannot judge what equipment could be in a production version of Escala, but undoubtedly, it would have all features of executive cars.

Some of Escala interior features will be implemented in next-generation Cadillac vehicles.

2018 Cadillac Escala Specs

The Escala is not a typical concept car as a mock-up without a technical part. It is actually a complete car or better says full-scale prototype of the next generation Cadillac cars.

For instance, there is a whole-new unit – a twin-turbocharged 4.2L engine with a V8 layout, producing approximately 500 HP. It is mated with all-new GM 10-speed automatic transmission. The car should be a very fuel-efficient, thanks to advanced cylinder deactivation system under low loads.

The exact layout configuration is unknown, but regarding the fact it is built on Omega platform, the 2018 Escala should be either rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive.

Prospects for Escala and Possible Pricing

Again, we doubt that the production car will get the same name. It is also unlikely that concept car will get into production as well, despite almost ‘ready for production’ look. If so, we could expect bigger Cadillac closer to 2019 or even 2020; the pricing is non-predictable, but it certainly will be on the same level as top-trimmed 7-series, S-class and Panamera.
