2018 Chevy Traverse Is Bigger Than Tahoe

By

More recently, in the spring of 2016, Photo spies has made shots of a testing mule of the new 2018 Chevy Traverse. It is widely known that the new crossover from Chevrolet will be in fact an elongated version of the GMC Acadia. Unlike GMC sibling, Traverse will be longer and have a third row of seats. Traverse 2018 will apply to the second generation SUV. The main rival for the car would be 2018 Ford Explorer.

New SUV also shares a platform with upcoming Buick Enclave.

2018 Chevy Traverse release date

According to preliminary information, the new crossover SUV could debut at the Detroit Auto Show in early 2017. While production versions will be available for sale toward the middle of 2017 year.

Release date: mid-2017

2018 Chevy Traverse price

We should expect roughly the same price as that of the current generation of the SUV, about $30,000. At the moment, the current generation Traverse is offered for this amount. If there be an increase it will be only a minor.

2018 Chevy Traverse redesign

It is difficult to predict what exactly the design of the new Traverse will be like. It might likely be stylistically similar to the latest models of Chevrolet, while in general, the body shapes will be very similar to the Acadia, only with stretched rear end.

The interior will undergo significant changes. In general, similar to other GM crossovers, debuted recently. We should expect a new center console with a large screen (of course, with the support of CarPlay and Android Auto), as well as the new multifunctional steering wheel.

The most significant changes are expected in the level of equipment. The current generation of Traverse significantly out of date in this respect, the car lacks many features required for customers. It is expected that the model might get LED daytime running lights, start/stop button (with keyless entry), power tailgate and other comfortable features. It might also get lane departure and collision warning.

Update: With the change of generations, Traverse has become a full-size crossover SUV, which in size exceeds even the Tahoe. Body length of the car is 204.2″, and the wheelbase of the car reaches 120.8″. The maximum trunk capacity is – 98.4 cu ft.

2018 Chevy Traverse specs

As noted above, the 2018 Chevrolet Traverse will use the new lightweight modular platform, which is already used in other updated GM cars. It’s application make possible the total weight reduction of the SUV, which no doubt have a positive impact on the performance and fuel economy.

As for engine range, it seems that customers will not have many engines to choose from. There is only one option expected to appear in Traverse at the moment: 3.6-liter 310 HP V6. It is more than enough to drive a heavy 7-seater without any compromises. However, people might require a more fuel-efficient unit. Current generation uses the same displacement and cylinder configuration engine, however, less powerful – only 281 HP available.

We hope that new Traverse will not be equipped with outdated 6-speed automatic and will get brand new 9-speed GM transmission. FWD layout will be standard, while AWD will be optional.

Update: The new Traverse will be front-wheel drive by default, while AWD will be optional for top trims. You can choose between two engines: a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline 4-cylinder with the power of 255 hp (295 ft lb) or naturally aspirated 3.6-liter V6 (305 hp and 258 ft lb). In both cases, the SUV is equipped with a 9-speed automatic.
