2018 Dodge Journey unlikely to receive updated platform

Recently, Dodge announced that the Journey would be with us for another couple of years before either being replaced or significantly upgraded, until then, Dodge are limiting us to minor updates on the existing Journey.

There isn’t that much confirmed truth regarding the new Dodge Journey, there are many rumors and much speculation, one thing we do know for sure though is that Dodge won’t be using an updated platform for the new 2018 Journey.

The Journey competes in a very competitive market, going up against the Ford Escape, Kia Sportage and the Honda CR-V.

2018 Dodge Journey Price

Not much is expected to change with the pricing structure, so we think that Dodge will sell the 2018 Journey with a starting price of $30,000.

2018 Dodge Journey Interior

The cabin looks fresh and cool, with contrasting colors and detailed upholstery. Expect to see an 8.4” LCD touchscreen infotainment system, capable of playing MP3, MP4, CD and DVD’s. While the Journey is listed as a 7-seater, in reality, you can only seat 5 adults and 2 children – space in the final row is pretty limited, certainly not enough for adults.

2018 Dodge Journey Redesign and changes

This new model will be the 10th anniversary of the Dodge Journey, but it seems that Dodge aren’t going to celebrate it, only giving minor updates and restyling for this next model year.

There will be a minor bit of weight loss, although nothing really significant (that would have come with an updated platform), but the suspension has been updated to give a much better ride. As most vehicle manufacturers seem to do, there will be restyled front bumpers, LED headlights and grille; Dodge are giving the Journey a more aggressive look to hopefully appeal to the younger buyers and widen their slice of the market.

2018 Dodge Journey Specs

Under the hood, we think that Dodge will fit the latest 2.4 liter I4 4-cylinder engine, this should be enough for 175 BHP (which isn’t great), but in the higher trim levels, expect to see a 3.6 liter V6 with 280 BHP – any model in this market really does need a smooth V6 motor to power it for it to stand a chance of any success. The motor will be coupled up to a 6-speed auto transmission.
