New for 2018 will be a little, sporty, compact crossover … except it isn’t really ‘new’.
Ford were one of the early trendsetters for small compact crossovers with the launch of the Escape back in 2000 as a 2001 model, but they never really went with it from there, certainly within the U.S. at least.
However, they have been supplying the Ecosport in Europe and other markets for a while now, and Ford have recently announced its arrival to the American shores at the Los Angeles Auto Show.
The compact crossover market is gaining in popularity, the Ecosport will be competing against such models as the Kia Soul, Mazda CX-3, Honda HR-V, Jeep Renegade and Fiat 500X.
2018 Ford Ecosport Release date
Ford will be launching the Ecosport as a 2018 model, we’d normally see the model arrive in the showroom towards the end of the previous year – late 2017 for example, but rumor says that the 2018 Ford Ecosport won’t arrive at the dealerships until the early part of 2018.
2018 Ford Ecosport release date: early 2018
2018 Ford Ecosport Price
Ford haven’t released any pricing structures for the Ecosport, but looking at the competition, you’d have to think that a starting price around the $20,000 mark is realistic – that’s averagely where the others sit.

2018 Ford Ecosport Equipment
Equipment levels are reasonable; an 8” touchscreen infotainment system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come as standard, as do two USB ports. Ford have also managed to 30 different storage cubbies / pockets inside the cabin.
2018 Ford Ecosport Redesign and Changes
This is a new model to the U.S., but the 2018 version has been updated, with particular regard to the front fascia; Ford have redesigned the bumpers, front grille and lighting, both front and back, giving the little Ecosport a fresh style ready for its American debut.
It’s built on the B platform (think Fiesta sizing) which means it will carry four adults and a small amount of luggage (but really only a small amount). Ride and handling is decent for such a little vehicle, but definitely not in the same league as some of the competition.
2018 Ford Ecosport Specs
The base model (the Ecosport will be available in four trim levels – S, SE, SES and Titanium) will have a small turbo charged 1.0 liter 3-cylinder motor fitted, it produces about 120 BHP and 125 lb/ft of torque, it will drive the front wheels through a 6-speed auto transmission. For those of you looking for a little more, there is another choice, but it’s still not great; a 2.0 liter 4-cylinder with 140 BHP and 143 lb/ft which drives all four wheels, but still using the same transmission.
