2018 Honda Accord expected changes

Taking into account average generation change each 4-5 years, for the most car producers, latest generation Honda Accord, debuted in late 2015, will likely to receive only minor updates. Honda is always keeps their future models in secret, so we could only guess what new features will have 2018 Honda Accord. The car will more likely to receive a so-called facelift, with a few new touches in both interior and exterior design. The engine range is also more likely to receive new powertrain, downsized and equipped with turbocharger.

2018 Honda Accord release date

As it is traditional for North American market, the model year begin in the last quarter of the year, so the new updated Accord will be ready for sale by the fall of 2017. European version of the car might be released in the beginning of 2018, with altered exterior and interior appearance.

It is a very difficult to predict the price of any product in two years before release. It is largely depending on economic situation. However, it is unlikely that 2018 Accord will cost more than its main rivals such as Toyota Camry, Chevy Malibu or Ford Fusion. So, the pricing is expected to be around $24,000 for the basic trim version.

2018 Honda Accord hybrid

The appearance of hybrid version of Accord is also possible. It might be a plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV), with ability to drive only using electricity from batteries, charged from home outlet. The internal combustion engine will be based on the standard 4-cylinder engine, available for the basic trim level. Honda will try to show the best eMPG rating among mid-size sedans with hybrid powertrains.

Fully electrical Accord is unlikely to appear in 2018, since the battery prices are high and possible price of high mileage full-electric mid-size sedan is beyond $35,000. Perhaps, after release of Tesla Model 3, the situation will change.

2018 Honda Accord redesign

As it was mentioned above, it is unlikely that Accord of 2018 model year will not likely to get a major redesign. It will receive new front end designed as consistent with latest concept cars, LED headlights even in basic trim (rearlights as well). The interior will probably stay the same, with slightly updated multimedia and safety functions.
Nevertheless, if Honda decided to highly upgrade its Accord by replacing the platform and overall body, there is possibility that mid-size sedan will be slightly increased in size, both in length and width, by increasing wheelbase. That’s a modern tendency to overall car industry.

2018 Honda Accord specs

Definitely, that is the most interesting part of a story, where we could expect innovations from Honda. As we know from the current generation car, it is equipped by traditional 2.4L inline 4 cylinder engine, and 3.5-liter V6 unit used on many Honda vehicles as well. 2018 Honda Accord engine range will possibly consist only of down-sized turbocharged engines. The tendency from Europe, where Ford and Volkswagen AG equipped its cars with 1.0-1.2 turbocharged engines, will sooner or later reach the North American market and affects such tradition-oriented manufacturers as Honda and Toyota. However, it is largely depends of oil prices and emission regulations – whether down-sized engines from Honda will be introduced to US customer or not.
