Is There Anything New for Kia Sportage 2018?

The current generation of Sportage debuted just a couple of years ago, features a very distinctive and controversial exterior styling, fully updated interior and some new powertrain features. Could we expect some serious changes in 2018 Kia Sportage?

Kia Motors has already revealed the list of improvements for Sportage 2018. There is nothing regarding strange-looking exterior, but some refreshments to equipment and trim level list are here. For instance, the initial version of the SUV received some new options lead to inevitable price increase.

The list of trim levels stay the same, but it has got some equipment tweaks.

2018 Kia Sportage Design Features

Some claim the new Sportage is ugly, some say it’s just a bit odd – almost nobody calls it pretty. Nevertheless, it stands out in comparison with rival SUV, so maybe it is an advantage. The styling depends on trim levels, with top-end trims you will get projection headlights and LED fog lights, along with the abundance of chrome, making the car look slightly different in comparison to initial trims.

In terms of dimensions, 2018 Kia Sportage is more compact than most competitors, has less ground clearance, so it is less capable of light off-road.

The interior is well-made, remains more expensive Audi models, at least some decorating elements and overall architecture of front console. However, now almost all Kia line-up feature similar interiors. The legroom and headroom in the interior are just nearly the same as in rival cars. As for downsides, Sportage has some problems with sound insulation at high speeds.

Sportage 2018 Tech Specs

The powertrain options don’t change anyway – there are still two options to choose – the standard naturally-aspirated unit of 2.4-liter displacement (181 HP, 175 ft-lb) or optional 2-liter turbocharged unit, producing 240 HP and 260 ft-lb of torque. Both mated with 6-speed automatic, FWD or AWD layout.

Fuel economy rating for 2.4 Sportage 2018 is 23 MPG in the city, 30 MPG in highway and 26 MPG combined, while the turbocharged car has 21/26/23 MPG respectively. The AWD system drops the figures by 1-3 MPG (mostly on the highway).
