2018 Lexus IS – only minor changes expected

The Lexus IS has been with us for a few years now, the styling on the newer models is a mixture of sharp angles and swooping lines; it looks muscular, sporting and aggressive while still remaining stylish and cool looking – it’s a hard trick to pull off, but Lexus manages it pretty well. We like the look of the newer Lexus’ (Lexi?).

Very little official information has been released by Lexus regarding the new 2018 IS model, but we’ve brought together most of the speculation and sifted through what is clearly wrong and what should be right (or at least what we’d like to see).

2018 Lexus IS Release date

The new 2018 Lexus IS is expected to be available around the middle part of 2017, perhaps delaying slightly for a month or two. At the very latest, it will be available by September 2017.

2018 Lexus IS Price

Allowing for inflation and upgrades, there will be a minor increase in pricing, and of course, the price is heavily dependent on the actual model chosen, but we think the new IS will start in the region of $38,000.

2018 Lexus IS Redesign and changes

Not much has changed with the exterior design, but when the current model looks so good, why would you change that? We do know that on the simplest level, Lexus are to introduce two new colors, a deep red and deep gray, and of course, Lexus will take the route that gives them the most bang for their buck; redesigned headlamps, grille and bumpers. The bumper also incorporates the redesigned air intakes for under the hood.

2018 Lexus IS Specs

Depending on which particular IS you choose, there are a number of engine options, but we expect to see the smallest base model fitted with a 2.0 liter turbo charged 4-cylinder which will produce 241 BHP and 258 lb/ft of torque, which should be plenty for everyday use. For those wanting a little more, there will be a 3.5 liter V6 which will come with two different power outputs; 255 BHP & 236 lb//ft of torque and the sportier 306 BHP & 277 lb/ft of torque.

Again, depending on model, rear wheel drive and all-wheel drive will be fitted (although the base model is rear wheel only). Transmission will be taken care of via a 6 or 8-speed auto.
