2018 Lexus RX L Enlarged For Big Families

Lexus officially introduced the 7-seat version of the RX crossover at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The RX is best-selling car for Lexus, it has more sales than any SUV from the brand, including more affordable and compact NX. The demand for 7-seaters in the United States market is very high (remember recent Tiguan LWB, exclusive to the US), so Lexus decided to follow the trend. You don’t need to pay more for GX and LX to get additional seats. To accommodate the third row of seats, the RX body was extended by 4.3″. For the sake of maintaining a roomy trunk, space for the head of passengers and visibility had to change the angle of the rear pillars of the roof.

The car is designed primarily for the needs of the US market – there crossovers with three rows of seats are very fond of (for example, Subaru will show in Los Angeles car of the same plan). The prospects for the appearance of new versions of RX outside the United States have not yet been reported.

The car will be produced in two versions: 350L and 450hL. In the first case, the crossover is equipped with a 294-hp 3.5-liter naturally aspirated V6 (264 ft lb) and an 8-speed automatic. In the second – a similar engine is supplemented with an electric motor, with which the total output will increase to 313 hp. The gasoline-only RX 350L can be purchased with a front or all-wheel drive, a hybrid 450hL – only with a AWD. It is noteworthy that the 350L is equipped with the Dynamic Torque Control system with clutches, and in the hybrid, the drive to the rear axle is realized with the help of an electric motor.

The second row of seats is located above the third, so that passengers of the last row have more legroom. The rear part of the car (namely, the  New versions of RX will traditionally receive rich equipment.
