2018 Mazda CX-7 Come Back to Production With New Design

By

The CX-7 was firstly released back in 2006. The car was quite controversial – the design was fresh and neat, but turbocharged I4 engines don’t fit mid-size crossover, and the quality wasn’t spectacular either. The car was replaced by CX-5 in 2012, which was better engineered. Nevertheless, with the introduction of CX-3 (Asian markets only) and a new CX-9, Mazda desperately need to complete their model line by something bigger than CX-5 but smaller than CX-9. There are plenty of rumors regarding next 2018 Mazda CX-7, but still no official confirmations.

2018 Mazda CX-7 Reveal and Pricing

It is rumored that reveal of new Mazda SUV will happen in the beginning of next year in one of the auto shows. The exact release date in worldwide market presumably in late 2018. However, all those predictions might not come true. For better marketing, the CX-7 should cost more than CX-5, we expect the price around $30,000 for the base trim level car – the same as highly-equipped CX-5 and less than standard CX-9.

Improved Skyactiv for 2018 CX-7

The Mazda follow its unique way – instead of massive downsizing and larger turbocharger apply, engineers, modify pistons, engine block, engine head and other details for better efficiency, and increase the compression ratio. As a result – so-called SkyActiv engines with high performance/efficiency ratio, but a bit more complicated than standard units. The Mazda CX-7 2018 is likely to get the same engine options as other crossovers of the brand:

  • Standard SkyActiv-G 2.5L 184 HP;
  • Turbocharged SkyActive-G 2.5L 250 HP.

Both engines mated with 8-speed automatic transmission only. The layout will be either FWD or AWD. The chassis would be similar with CX-5: McPherson struts in front, multi-link in rear. For Europe, a diesel SkyActiv-D engines are likely to appear as well. It is rumored that Mazda will release the very first one hybrid SUV of the brand, based on Atkinson cycle engine (probably highly modified SkyActiv-G with 2-liter displacement).

2018 Mazda CX-7 Exterior Design

The design of the exterior is likely to be very familiar with other crossovers of the brand. So-called “Kodo” style is one of the most important goals of the modern Mazda company. We don’t know how exactly a new SUV would look, but we sure it would be one of the best-looking mid-size SUVs. Undoubtedly, the new 2018 CX-5 will get all modern features, like full LED headlights and rear lights, electric-powered tailgate and adaptive cruise control sensors. The overall style is likely to be more premium than sporty-oriented.

CX-7 2018 Interior

We cannot say much about the interior of the car since there are no spy shots yet. We could assume that it would be very similar to the interior of a bigger CX-9 model, with the same design cues. Almost certainly, the standard modification of CX-5 would be two row only, while the third row will be optional – that could be made in order not to make competition with a bigger SUV and to attract people to buy more expensive car.
