Future 2018 Subaru XV Crosstrek Facelift Revealed


Immediately after the debut of the new generation Impreza, we should expect a new version of off-road hatchback on the same platform. Since the release date of the new Subaru family is expected in 2017, the name of the new crossover will be the 2018 model year Subaru Crosstrek. The crossover will get a completely new appearance in the spirit of the concept presented at the Geneva Motor Show in 2016. In technical terms, it is not expected major changes – Subaru remains true to tradition.

The new crossover will be produced at the plant in Indiana, where it will be made the whole line of the automaker – Legacy, Outback, and upcoming 7-seat Tribeca successor. It is expected that the sale of new XV Crosstrek will arrive at the end of 2017.

According to preliminary information, the cost of the new Subaru XV 2018 will not be much different from the current generation. Thus, the price of the standard version is about $26,500, while the more advanced modifications will cost more than $30,000.

In terms of design, the car is still an analog of the Impreza hatchback with increased clearance and a protective plastic kit. Now the car can be purchased with one of two new coloring options – available in the colors Cool Gray Khaki and Sunshine Orange. The 2018 Subaru Crosstrek concept is wider and lower than the current generation, its wheelbase is increased.

Most likely the height of the standard car will remain the same, while the width and length really increase. Nothing is known about the interior of the new crossover, but it is likely that it will be completely new.
It is expected that in order to standardize it will repeat completely the interior of the updated Impreza family with some unique features. For example, two-color seats, different steering wheel. It is possible that the interior will be significantly different, but this is unlikely. 2018 Subaru Crosstrek colors are likely to be revised, however it could be the same as used in brand-new Impreza.

Crosstrek XV 2018 Tech Specs

Now XV is built on a new modular platform, already used in the design of the next-generation Impreza. The transition to a different architecture made it possible to make the car body 70% harder than its predecessor had. The whole concept of 2018 Subaru XV Crosstrek will not change – the high crossover hatchback, boxer 4-cylinder engine, and permanent four-wheel drive. However, it will be built on an entirely new platform – a modular platform Subaru Global Platform. It was designed to be the basis for all new models of the brand.

By default, the crossover is equipped with a symmetrical all-wheel drive system with X Mode, which allows you to more effectively overcome off-road due to the adjustment of the brakes, the engine and steering. The car will be produced with a 2.0-liter naturally-aspirated engine with a power of 156 HP with Lineatronic CVT. The manufacturer claims that 80% of the engine parts were somehow modified in comparison with the previous XV.

The 2018 Subaru Crosstrek hybrid version will also be presented, but will be available later. It will consist of the same powertrain as the standard version, plus an electric motor and batteries.

2018 Crosstrek Turbo

The apparance of the 2018 model year Crosstrek turbo is unlikely to happen, at least for the US market. There are no proper turbocharged engines, suitable for installing under the hood of compact crossover. Turbocharged units are mainly used in sports versions of Impreza and in top-end Foresters.

There are possible could be the STI version with this engine, however there are no information regarding this at all.
