2018 Subaru WRX and its STI modification updated

The Subaru WRX and WRX STi have been around for some time now, always popular and have done well. However, it seems that the WRX range are now becoming a bit outdated and more importantly (in this market) out-paced.

The ‘Scooby is pretty much the last of the true high performance sedans that has links back in to the World Rally Championship, this gives it quite a pedigree.

Subaru know that the WRX and STi need updating desperately, and they’re going all out to do that, the new WRX promises to be something special.

2018 Subaru WRX Release date

Subaru haven’t released any official information about the new WRX / STi, but rumors suggest that we’ll see the new models hitting the dealership around the middle part of 2017.

2018 Subaru WRX Price

Again, nothing official has been said, but working on the usual Subaru pricing structures, we’d expect to see a small increase over the current model. We think that the 2018 Subaru WRX will start in the region of $36,000.

2018 Subaru WRX STI Redesign and changes

From what we understand, pretty much everything is going to be upgraded or changed; Subaru know that the WRX is lagging behind and they need to take the fight back to the competition. We know that Subaru have finally lost the old 2.5 liter engine; it just wasn’t powerful enough, and the power came in high up – it needed more low down grunt. The new motor is still 2.5 liter but is next generation; it produces close to 350 BHP and 320 lb/ft of torque, but that torque comes in at about 2,000 RPM rather than 4,000 RPM.

2018 Subaru WRX Specs

There will also be a brand new platform which is claimed to be 50% more structurally rigid than the outgoing model and thanks to newer construction materials, should be significantly lighter. This will give the car a completely different feel and ride, making it more nimble but actually softening the ‘racecar’ feel.

Externally, there is the possibility of two body styles; a hatchback and sedan, although we think it is the hatchback that should be styled more aggressively, the sedan will get a softer look to broaden the appeal, although it will still be a little rocket in the performance department.

2018 Subaru WRX Interior

Finally, it is said that the cabin will be completely overhauled, making it closer to a European spec in terms of equipment and feel; higher quality materials, redesigned ergonomics and the feel of quality and luxury, albeit with a sporty feel.
