Dodge Charger 2019 Could Be A New Model On Alfa Platform

The Charger name dates all the way back to traditional American muscle cars; loud V8 up front, rear wheel drive, long hood, soggy suspension and tires that could only be described as ‘ditch finders’.

Dodge reintroduced the Charger name to their line up back in 2005, an updated Charger followed in 2010 and then a minor refresh for 2015. There is wild speculation as what the next Charger will be – a refresh or an all new model.

Dodge haven’t said much, so we’ve been talking to industry sources to see what the general consensus is.

2019 Dodge Charger Redesigned In a New Way

Let’s look at the possibility of Dodge introducing a new model; rumor has it that it will shed a huge amount of weight – approximately 500 lbs (although as to how they are doing that remains to be seen); perhaps a full composite body?

The platform that they would most likely build such an auto on would be the Alfa Romeo Giulia platform.

As for the styling – we’ve been told that the new Charger will take inspiration from the Dodge Charger R/T Concept car that was shown to the public all the way back in 1999; sleek and curvy rather than boxy and aggressive.

2019 Dodge Charger model range won’t be wide – don’t expect coupe (we’ve got Challenger instead), as well as Charger Demon. SRT and Hellcat versions are more likely, however powertrain options are still under certain considerations.

release date of a car Late part of 2018
pricing range Estimated $32,000 for a basic trim level
drive layout Could be front-wheel drive in standard trims
engine type Twin-turbo 4-cylinder version as a standard, over 300 horsepower
top speed 118-190 MPH top speed range depending on the engine
fuel consumption Average consumption about 22-23 MPG

Smaller Engines?

If the rumors are true, then Dodge would be able to choose a smaller motor to power the new Charger – think of the 4-cylinder that will be powering the new Jeep Wrangler – twin turbo, 300+ BHP and excellent economy – this will be the age of the modern muscle car – less horsepower but dramatically less weight.

If it so, we could not expect 2019 Dodge Charger Hellcat with a good-old HEMI V8.

Like it or not, emissions play an ever increasing role in the design, build and manufacture of our autos, it’s thanks to this that the new Charger will take on a sleeker and more aerodynamic appearance.

Reveal and Price for New Charger 2019

The new Dodge Charger 2019 will hit the showrooms in the late part of 2018, as a 2019 model year. Don’t expect to see it before the end of the third quarter though. At the time of writing no confirmation as to whether it’s an all new Charger or refresh has been made by Dodge and appearance of 2019 Charger Hellcat.

Given that the current model starts at around $29,000, we’d expect to see the Charger 2019 selling for around $32,000 allowing for inflation and a few bits of tweaking; any more than that, and the pricing just isn’t competitive, unless of course, Dodge go for the complete new model, and then who knows?

If the new Charger switches to an Italian platform, it would certainly loses its identity. But instead, it gets perfect handling and fuel efficiency.
