Alfa Romeo Wants To Produce SUVs Instead Of Spiders

By

It was years ago when all Alfa Romeo fans were in delight. The expectations were to see the new Spider produced by the Italian carmaker. Many sources gave big predictions on this aspect. One of the most popular news was that the auto would make a comeback using chassis purposed for Miata. This approach was said to make the model even more popular. Nevertheless, two years ago Alfa Romeo refused from this project. Thus, project based on Miata technologies passed on to Fiat which was rather optimistic about that. The new decision of Alfa was to proceed to a Spider from scratch. It had to be all new according to the company’s claims. The platform used though belonged to the sedan known as Giulia. To the disappointment of numerous drivers this plan is likely to be postponed as well.

According to the recent news from the world of cars, the roadster based on use of Giulia technologies is going to be cancelled. Instead of it the company will focus on new production. Even though it may sound unexpected Alfa Romeo has set its eye on creating crossover line. Many people have already found it disappointing enough. Nevertheless, such a twist in the company’s policy could have been predicted when Alfa started to produce new sedan which was rear drive.

Judging from this new Spider is not going to be worth of investments spent. Even being equipped with rear drive and other similar features, this vehicle will not live up to expectations, if all the attention of the company will focus on SUV type. The first crossover produced by the Italian automaker is going to hit the car shows during 2016, presumably in winter. There are also plans to start production of even larger SUV which will debut afterwards.

In addition, Alfa Romeo has already cancelled another sedan. Its purpose was to compete with such models as BMW 5-Series. The company has stated that it has always had a desire to try itself at this segment. However, the automaker says that such approach will urge Alfa Romeo to start working with crossovers.

Anyway, there is no possibility of Alfa coming back to its old policy. As far as we can understand, it is going to start production of cars which are popular and will be sold in big quantities. Thus, they can benefit from economic point of view which is rather sensible. However, there is still a gleam of hope among drivers that Alfa Romeo will hide Giulia and promised Stelvio up in its sleeve to hit the market later.
