Ford Fusion vs Chrysler 200 Comparison

We continue to compare Ford Fusion with other most popular mid size sedans. This time it is Chrysler 200, which features attractive design and widely recognizable by many critics, archiving lots of awards, mainly as the best car under $25,000. By the way, the car is sharing platform with upcoming Dodge Journey.

The difference between the Range Rover and the Bentley (and the yet to be released Cullinan) is that the Range Rover makes big and boxy beautiful, whereas the super luxury offerings are… maybe hideous is too strong a word, but they certainly aren’t pretty.

When Rolls-Royce finally decided to build a competitor to the likes of the Range Rover, Bentley, Lamborghini Urus, Mercedes-AMG G65 and the Porsche Cayenne Turbo, they knew that it should ride like a Rolls but still have at least 90% of the off road ability of the Range Rover.

In the middle 2014 Chrysler 200 was received major restyling, and now looking more precisely, but had lost some of the US car uniqueness, looking more global – you may put any other badge and doesn’t feel the change. Unlike Honda Accord, Chrysler 200 has nearly the same dimensions, with slightly shorter wheelbase. So, there is plenty of room inside. The interior has awarded as one of the best 10 interiors by WARD’s in 2015. The styling is really outstanding, but the trim materials are a bit worse than in Fusion, comparable in higher trim levels though. Center console looks a lot like in Chevrolet Malibu or some Korean cars like Hyundai.

Fusion vs 200 Engines and Drivetrain

Unlike the Ford Fusion which has wide engine range, Chrysler 200 has only 2 engine options and 1 transmission option available. The layout is front wheel drive and all-wheel drive available for 2 top trims. The first engine is 2.4L 4-cylinder MultiAir Tigershark engine producing 184 hp and 173 lb ft of torque. The figures are comparable with Accord and Fusion standard engines. The second engine is 3.6L V6 Pentastar, with 295 hp way more than Fusion may offer. V6 is standard for AWD models and optional for FWD. Both engines combined with 9-speed automatic transmission, which operates with the knob very similar to Jaguar one.

200 vs Fusion Trim Levels

2015 Chrysler 200 is available in 4 trim levels – LX, Limited, 200S and 200C.
LX despite being the most affordable trim level, has keyless entry system, 8 airbags, electric parking, cloth seats, ESP, electronic dashboard, multifunctional steering wheel, LED taillights. Most of this equipment is available for Ford Fusion only in higher trims. However, the car doesn’t have a proper entertainment system, offers only FM/AM radio.

Limited adding power mirrors, ambient LED interior lighting, Uconnect multimedia system with 5-inch touchscreen. S trim adding brake assistant, LED headlamps, satellite radio, power driver seat, 60/40 folding rear seats, 18-inch wheels. 200C features heated mirrors, rear view camera, remote start, leather seats, power passenger seat, dual zone climate control. All trims has a variety of different options, all of it is comparable to Ford Fusion. Most of the equipment available only as an option.

Chrysler 200 vs Ford Fusion Price and Fuel Consumption

2015 Chrysler 200 LX starting price is $21,995; 200 Limited starting at $23,950; 200S is available for $25,170; 200C for $26,625. V6 engine available for Limited and higher and adding to price about $2,000. AWD adds massive $4,200 to the price and available for 200S and 300C with V6 engines only.

2015 Chrysler 200 price: starting at $21,995 (without options)

The EPA-rated fuel consumption figures for Chrysler 200 are following: 23 mpg for city, 36 for highway and 28 mpg combined. V6 version gets 19, 32 and 23 respectively. It is comparable with Ford Fusion with standard 2.5L engine and just a bit less than with 2.0L EcoBoost. 1.5L is more economical though.

It is noticeable that 2015 model year Chrysler 200 is rated number 10 by U.S. News in affordable midsize sedans, so close to #8 Ford Fusion. And despite being so advanced and affordable, Chrysler 200 is less sophisticated in details and has less standard equipment in all trims than Ford Fusion. The reliability rating for both cars is the same – 3 out of 5 by J.D. Power. But the critic ratings for Ford Fusion is overall higher. Chrysler 200 is safety than Fusion – have got all “Good” points by IIHS and all 5 stars by NHTSA (except 4 stars for rollover).
