Impala Model History Since 2000

Chevrolet Impala is still in production. It’s a full-size vehicle which has been sold very well in America over the years. It came back to the market in 2000 as a FWD sedan affordable for an average buyer.

2000-2005 Generation

After a long break Impala made a comeback using W-body platform which belonged to Lumina. In fact it was the same Lumina bearing a new name. In differ from previous models this vehicle started using FWD technologies. Two engines are available for this car. One of them is 3.8-litre V6 unit, another one is 3.4-litre V6 unit. SS model featuring a supercharged engine was brought out.

There were two trims available. The standard model offered cloth materials. Its productivity was up to 180 horsepower. Another trim level was LS which had more features such as anti-lock brakes, foglamps, rear spoiler and others. This car could produce up to 200 horsepower.

Starting from 2004 this generation arrived with 3.8-litre V6 of supercharged kind producing 240 horsepower. It was quick enough to accelerate 0-60 in 6.5 seconds.

2006-2016 Generation

This time the vehicle landed on a different platform known as GM W. The standard variant was offered with 3.5-litre V6 which produced 211 horsepower. The car had new type of taillights. Its SS variant came with V8 engine of 5.3 litres producing 303 horsepower. It could make 0-60 in 5.6 seconds.

The vehicle was available as LS, LT, LTZ and SS. The models made it possible to accommodate up to six passengers, use leather materials. The cupholders were moved under the centre console.

In 2007 a 3.5-litre V6 model arrived using FlexFuel technologies. The system to wisely manage the fuel was available. These changes touched all the trim levels but SS variant. 2012 variant went through exterior changes and was facelifted. It was made based on 3.6-litre LFX engine.

Our Days

The modern looking Impala was released in 2014. It was very well-received by drivers. This vehicle was of a bigger size compared to previous models. The car was produced with a 6-speed automatic transmission providing Sport mode as well.

This generation was made to be affordable for people but with a good level of comfort inside. The car was equipped with 18-inch wheels and LED daytime running lights as standard features. You could buy it with 2.5-litre engine of 4 cylinders, 2.4-litre engine using hybrid-assist technology and 3.6-litre V6.
