Nissan GT-R vs Acura NSX – Technology or Brute Force?

It doesn’t come as a surprise that a model like Nissan GT-R is often challenged. The model has already quite a long history and has gained success on the streets as well as in professional sport.

This is mostly due to GT-R wise technologies, AWD and a powerful engine. One of its potential competitors is known as Acura NSX. This is a new generation of a famous sportcar from 90s combining Ferrari dynamics and efficiency of a family sedan. Its generation was released in 2016. Technically speaking this is the most challenging car for Honda the name of which NSX bears in Japan.

Who’s Faster, Stronger and Heavier?

The latest version of Acura or Honda NSX was built with a competitive 3.5-litre V6 engine of twin-turbo type. Plus it had three electric units to get even more powerful. So what about Nissan? Its latest generation comes with a 3.8-litre V6 which is turbocharged. While NSX outputs 565 horsepower, Nissan produces 600 horsepower. Both of these models are of AWD type but Honda is equipped with a 9-speed dual-clutch semi-automatic transmission and Nissan is made with a 6-speed transmission of an automatic kind. By the way, next gen 2018 Nissan GT-R is rumored to have a hybrid powerplant as well.

In terms of weight, Nissan GT-R is slightly heavier because it is of 3933 pounds. Acura NSX is 3803 pounds heavy. With such body parameters Nissan GT-R reaches 195 MPH of top speed making 0-60 in 2.9 seconds. NSX is logically faster because of lighter weight so it can develop up to 200 MPH but it make 0-60 in 3.3 seconds.

Who’s More Expensive to Buy?

In terms of price Nissan GT-R is more beneficial because its base variant will cost you $111,685. Standard variant of Acura NSX is from $156,940. However, Nissan GT-R includes more trim levels, so you can choose between different prices. For example, NISMO variant price is around $176,685.

With such a difference in price, these vehicles have something in common. For instance, they both show such results as 22 MPG on highway.

Finally, Acura NSX looks more like a supercar model but it shows slowlier and poorer results than Nissan GT-R during testing. It goes without saying that much depends on Acura’s heavy weight (GT-R is heavier but has better power to weight ratio) which doesn’t do any good for the vehicle. Even though Honda engineers have done a good job, they’ve failed to beat the famous GT-R car.
