By

An entirely new concept from the Porsche was revealed at IAA 2015 in Frankfurt. The four-door all-electric coupe called Porsche Mission E has the potential to become a competitor to Tesla Model S.

Porsche has impressed journalists and VIP-guests, showing unusual concept car before the opening of the Frankfurt motor show. The first all-electric four-door sports car in the history of the German brand – Porsche desire to enter an entirely new segment, which now dominates unconditionally Tesla Model S and where Mercedes-Benz tends to get. However, the serial car will not be produced until the end of the decade.

Thus the first specifications of the Mission E are already known. The combination of the two electric motors gives a total of more than 600 horsepower, which is sufficient to accelerate the more than two-ton car to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds and to 124 mph – in less than 12 seconds. These figures are better than the Porsche 911 Turbo, but slightly inferior to the Tesla Model S P85D.

However, according to Porsche, Mission E is able to travel without recharging more than 330 miles, and charging the battery to 80% capacity takes only 15 minutes. However, special charger with 800 volts voltage will be needed, which Porsche developed specifically for this concept. The battery is liquid-cooled, located under the floor within the wheelbase gives the car a low center of gravity and excellent balance.

The serial version Porsche Mission E can expect close to 2020, but even before that many of the features of the concept we will see in the next-generation Panamera.
