The Best 4 Wheel Drive SUVs

By

SUV’s (Sports Utility Vehicle) seem to be taking over the world; they have enough load space and seating for a large family, have rugged (ish) looks and can tackle everything from smooth highways through to rocky mountain roads.

You don’t NEED a 4WD version, but for those that like to venture off the beaten track, a four-wheel drive is a good choice without going for a fully specced up off-roader.
Here’s a few of the best 4×4 SUVs…

2017 Jeep Wrangler

For the full off-road experience and capability, you need to order the Rubicon spec. This gives you a 285 BHP 3.6 liter V6 with a 6-speed manual or auto transmission and the Rock-Trac 4WD system, featuring a super low gear ratio – 4.0:1.

It’s one of the best 4WD vehicles of all time, along with a Range Rover and Land Cruiser.

2017 Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class

Like something with a little more comfort and a few more toys? Then the GLS-Class is for you; air suspension, active roll bars, self-parking system, lane keeping, collision detection with auto braking and a vehicle stabilization system.

It is one of the best SUVs with 4WD in premium segment.

2017 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque

The Range Rover combines luxury, style and off-road capability like no-one else. The Evoque comes in 2 or 4-doors and is fitted with Land Rover’s Terrain Response System.

2017 Toyota Land Cruiser

The Land Cruiser is the most expensive Toyota on the books, it has seating for up to 8 passengers and features Toyota’s Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System, making it excellent off-road. It also happens to have a 5.7 liter V8 with 381 BHP fitted.

2017 Lexus RX Hybrid

Slightly strange looking at the front, but the hybrid is otherwise stylish. Fitted with a 3.5 liter V6 and two electric motors which gives 308 BHP and 30+ MPG, even in start/stop traffic.

2017 BMW X6

This really is a mixture… Crossover / SUV / Coupe … it’s kind of a mongrel in that respect, but it’s forgiven because of the excellent engine choices; straight 6 twin turbo 3.0 liter with 300 BHP or the 4.4 liter V8 twin turbo with 445 BHP.

2017 GMC Yukon XL

Need space? The Yukon XL can seat nine passengers or give you 121.1 cubic feet of space. Not only that, but it can haul up to 8,100 lbs thanks to its 6.2 liter V8 with 420 BHP and 460 lb/ft of torque. That’s the Best 4×4 SUV in full-size segment.

Pretty much every SUV manufacturer produces a four wheel drive, decide on what it is you want to do and start taking choices from there.
