US-spec Ranger Confirmed To 2018 Reveal In The US

By

Life changing news for all the Ford Ranger American fans is here. Finally, Ford has announced that the company is investing a $700-million sum into their Michigan plant. This plant will be responsible for the production of U.S. spec Ford Ranger. So far this is just a provisional plan. The fact is that Ford company still needs to come to terms with UAW but it’s not going to take much time.

The American part of the market has been missing out lately. Ford didn’t pay much attention to this area but its new Ranger will still come now that around six years have passed since Ranger sales were stopped in North America.

What to Expect From New Ranger?

2017 Detroit Auto Show was responsible for spreading details concerning this vehicle. Once again it will be a mid-size pickup which will arrive to America as 2019 model. The production stage is said to be launched in the end of 2018. This is why Michigan factory is already being prepared. Nevertheless, the main question is still the same: what should we expect from the upcoming Ford Ranger?

What we know for sure is that it won’t be from scratch production. As many rumors predict and as the company itself hints you won’t see a brand new vehicle. Most likely it will be based on T6 platform. This is the platform which is used for the current Ford Ranger. This vehicle is manufactured in Thailand these days.

The official representative of Ford whose name is Mike Levine gives another hint on what to expect this time. He says that the team responsible for new American Ranger will focus mostly on the engine, features and front styling. Judging from such a comment this generation of Ranger will not really think much about its appearance. Most likely new specs and modern features will be added.

Two Body Options

Even though new Ford Ranger isn’t fully redesigned, it will be produced with two body styles. At least this is what can be said so far. We expect it to be a Super Cab. Such a variant will have reverse-hinged rear doors, for example. Another body style in consideration is a Double Cab coming with full-sized doors. Speaking of a Regular Cab, it won’t make much sense, if released for the U.S. market.

As for the specifications, U.S. Ranger is said to acquire gasoline type of engines. One of the possible variants is 3.3-litre Ti-VCT. This choice is good providing 282 horsepower and 253 lb-ft of torque. EcoBoost with four cylinders may also be used. This 2.3-litre unit will provide around 280 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. Specifically in U.S. Ranger may come with 3.2-liter Power Stroke Turbo Diesel which outputs 185 horsepower with 350 lb-ft of torque.
