2018 Nissan Leaf will extend its range to 200 miles+

Nissan Leaf will appear as the second-generation model of 2018 Nissan Leaf, or as some 2017 model year. It is not known, but it has become public knowledge – Nissan became firmly on the path of electric vehicle development, which may cover more than 200 miles on a single charge.

Nissan was the first on the market with a relatively affordable for the mass sales EV model. In December 2010, Leaf began with 75 miles, in 2013 this figure increased to 83 miles, and in 2015 as a temporary measure, it appears the modification with 30 kWh battery, which is able to overcome the car up to 124 miles without recharging.

Nissan has repeatedly said that the fourth-generation battery waiting in the wings, it will be able to provide a range of 300 km or 200 miles. The only question is, what are they waiting?

2018 Nissan Leaf redesign

The first generation of Leaf debuted in 2010, in 2013 received a slight facelift, and in this form is available so far. For the first mass electric car suggests a completely new, original and modern look. As a stylistic base can serve either the recent Nissan Sway or IDS concept car. They are most often used to show the most likely design the next generation of Nissan Leaf. So, it will keep 5-door hatchback body.

The interior also undergoes significant changes. It is most likely that it will become more futuristic than that of the current cars. There is great hope that the charger in the car will be smaller – to increase the volume of the luggage compartment.

The main intrigue – whether the updated Leaf can on equal compete with the Model 3 (which promise to release in 2017) and Bolt EV by Chevrolet, which will be released at the end of 2016. Both competitors promise up to 200 miles on a single charge. The thing is that earlier Leaf could drive no more than 105-110 miles under real conditions of the city and routes. Obviously, to achieve the target of 200 miles, it is necessary to use a much more efficient electric motor (and probably less powerful) or a much more capacious battery. And best of something, both of it.

Some experts believe that the model will receive a capacious 60-kW battery, which will achieve high mileage on a single charge. Battery capacity comparable to that of the initial versions of the Model S from Tesla, which is pretty good.
